10 LEGO sets every video game fan will want on their shelf

There’s something about building a favourite game out of bricks. You spend hours with these worlds on a screen, and then one weekend you get to hold a piece of one in your hands, click it together yourself and find it a spot on the shelf.

The good news is that LEGO’s gaming range has never been bigger. There are serious display pieces for grown-up collectors, chunky playsets for younger fans, and a few in-between builds that make brilliant gifts. Here are the ones worth your time, from Hyrule all the way to the Battle Bus.

1. Ocarina of Time – The Final Battle

If you grew up with a Nintendo 64 controller in your hands, this is the one that’ll make you pause. It turns the climax of Ocarina of Time into a dramatic little diorama, the kind of scene you’ll catch yourself staring at long after the last brick goes in.

At 1,003 pieces it’s a satisfying evening or two of building without being overwhelming, and it’s rated 18+, so it’s pitched squarely at adult fans. It looks right at home next to a Switch on the TV unit.

Great for: Zelda fans who still hum the Song of Storms.

2. Mario Kart – Mario & Standard Kart

This is the big, bold showpiece of the list. Mario and his kart get the full display-model treatment, and with 1,972 pieces there’s plenty to sink into over a few relaxed sessions.

It’s an 18+ set, and it builds into the kind of model visitors spot from across the room. If you’ve ever lost a friendship over a blue shell, you’ll understand the appeal of finally having Mario somewhere he can’t hit you with one.

Great for: Mario Kart regulars who want one standout piece.

3. Iconic Trainer Moments Poké Ball

The biggest build here at 2,386 pieces, and a proper project for a long weekend. It’s a celebration of the Pokémon journey in one of the most recognisable shapes in gaming.

Rated 18+, it’s built for collectors who want something special in pride of place rather than a toy to play with. Put on a podcast, clear the dining table and enjoy the ride.

Great for: lifelong trainers after a centrepiece build.

4. Game Boy

A love letter to the handheld that started it all for so many people. At 421 pieces it’s one of the quicker builds here, which makes it a lovely gift: done in an afternoon, then admired for years.

It’s rated 18+ and sits beautifully on a desk or bookshelf. Expect a rush of nostalgia the moment the screen goes on.

Great for: anyone who wore out the batteries on long car trips.

5. Fortnite Rave Cave

Fortnite’s sense of fun translates surprisingly well to bricks, and the Rave Cave leans all the way in. With 1,963 pieces it’s a big, busy build with lots to discover as it comes together.

It’s rated 12+, which makes it a great pick for teens who’ve grown up dropping into the island, or for a parent and kid to tackle together over a few nights.

Great for: older kids and teens who live and breathe Fortnite.

6. Pokémon Eevee

Eevee has a way of winning everyone over, and this set is no exception. At 587 pieces it’s a cosy, manageable build that ends with one of the most loved Pokémon sitting on your shelf.

It’s rated 18+ and makes a thoughtful present for the Pokémon fan who has everything else already. Fair warning: it’s hard to stop at just one Pokémon set.

Great for: fans who’d pick Eevee as their partner every time.

7. Fortnite Battle Bus

Every match starts with the Battle Bus, so it’s fitting that it’s one of the most fun sets in the Fortnite range. At 954 pieces there’s a good amount to build without it becoming a marathon.

It’s rated 10+, so younger players can handle most of it on their own, and it’s every bit as fun to play with as it is to display.

Great for: kids who always want to drop in first.

8. Timmy & Tommy’s Fun Day Out

The Nook twins head out for the day in this charming Animal Crossing set. It captures the gentle, sunny mood of the series, and at 513 pieces it’s a relaxed build that suits a quiet afternoon.

Rated 10+, it’s a sweet gift for younger Animal Crossing fans, and honestly just as lovely for grown-ups who still check in on their island every day.

Great for: cosy gamers who never miss a turnip price check.

9. The Twisted Warden Battle

Minecraft and LEGO were always going to get along, and this set brings the tension of a Warden showdown to the playroom floor. At 438 pieces it’s a quick, action-packed build.

It’s rated 8+, so it’s ideal for younger players who’d rather build a battle than sit and look at one.

Great for: young Minecraft fans who love a boss fight.

10. Shadow’s Mech vs. G.U.N. Trooper

Shadow the Hedgehog gets a chunky mech in this Sonic set, and it’s every bit as much fun as that sounds. At 374 pieces it’s the smallest build on the list and a great first LEGO gaming set.

It’s rated 8+, making it an easy birthday win for younger Sonic fans, and a speedy build for anyone who just wants to get to the playing part.

Great for: young Sonic fans who always pick Shadow.
