Brotato’s developers have started balancing the Primal Dread DLC on an open beta branch, four days after the DLC’s release, so changes can be tested without touching the default version. Patch 1.2.0.2.beta-0 is the first round, and the team calls it “the first of many”.

Before you jump in

  • On the beta branch, the game creates a parallel progression based on your default-branch progress. Beta progress is recorded only on the beta branch, and default progress only on the default branch.
  • When the beta ends, your beta progress is lost, though you can transfer it manually (the steps are in the original post).
  • Deactivate and unsubscribe from all Workshop mods first, as outdated mods might cause crashes and corrupted saves.
  • To opt in on PC, right-click Brotato in your Steam Library, open Properties, choose Betas, and select “beta” in the drop-down menu.

Characters and items

  • Variant now gives a 25% chance for an item to mutate when you equip it, replacing the old 50% chance of a better-tier mutated item.
  • The new Chimera Cells item (Uncommon, Mutant) adds +10% mutation chance, max 5, and is unlocked by winning a run with Variant.
  • Wildfire Mutation is now unlocked by default.
  • Time Shifter no longer sees Dodge upgrades, and Arsonist no longer sees Engineering upgrades.
  • Fossil items get stat buffs across the board, including Right Arm, Left Leg, Spine, Jaw, Left Arm and Skull. Tooth’s Max HP penalty drops from -2 to -1.

Evolution and bans

  • Mutation’s copied effects get stronger sooner: 70% strength at 40 Evolution and full strength at 100 (was 150). Anvil’s effect can no longer be copied.
  • Evolved Leap gets a new effect: +50% chance to attract a Mecha or Mutant Fruit at the end of a wave.
  • Mecha part drop chance falls from 2% to 1.5%.
  • Weapon mechanization stat options are lowered at each rank, reaching the tier IV value at rank 8 (was rank 4) and then stopping.
  • You now gain 1 ban token every 4 waves, up to wave 20.

Enemies and waves

  • Acid puddles scale more gently, the first damage tick comes after 1s, and damage stops when you leave.
  • Velociraptor, Pterosaur and Giant Dragonfly are toned down, Iguanodon HP drops from 20 to 16, and the Carnivorous Plant Mother has less HP and a longer attack cooldown.
  • Brachiosaurus gets a landing attack, fires fewer projectiles (14 to 8) and can be Mecha, Mutant or neutral.
  • Jeholopterus is removed from the Jungle, there are fewer hole clusters, and several waves are adjusted, including Nightmare-specific changes.
  • Pachycephalosaurus and Pachyrhinosaurus each give 1 more gold.

Fixes

  • Lystrosaurus now has the right sprite and stats.
  • The burning tooltip scaling and the random zone selection with some DLCs disabled are fixed.
  • Co-op shop navigation is fixed.
  • Codex enemy completion can now reach 100% with any DLC combination.
  • Missing challenge rewards are unlocked automatically when the game starts.

The team wants feedback in the Steam Beta Discussions, the Discord beta channels or on the official Reddit.
