Hearthstone patch 37.0.2 is a balance update that moves C’Thun’s power into the card itself and pulls back Warlock’s strongest Reign of the Black Empire decks. Arena and Battlegrounds get sizeable changes too, and Blizzard is handing out early event cards.

Standard

Blizzard says C’Thun, Eye of the Empire emerged as the strongest of the four Old Gods. It now quadruples its abilities instead of tripling them, while the cards that trigger its abilities early are toned down.

  • C’Thun support: Wrath of C’Thun, Domain of C’Thun and Servants of C’Thun all lose a little power, and Dark Deacon now needs only 1 Shadow spell cast while held.
  • Warlock: M.O.T.H.E.R goes from 9 to 10 mana, Divergence from 5 to 7 mana, and Bat Mask no longer works on Legendary minions. Ritual of Summoning and Godfather Kazakus are weakened.
  • Priest: Reach Equilibrium quests now need 6 spells instead of 4, and Khelos from Egg of Khelos no longer has Taunt.
  • Unstable Prototype: now gives +1 Attack instead of +1/+1, aimed at Handbuff Death Knight.
  • Buffs: Tinker, Flamespitter, Grafted Knight, Setesh, Decimation, Aqir Swarmer, Aqir Goliath and Y’Shaarj, Titan Bane, among others, are improved.

The changed cards are eligible for a full dust refund for two weeks after the patch. Spawn of C’Thun can’t be refunded yet because of a bug, and will be refundable from patch 37.2.

Wild

Reincarnate can no longer target Legendary minions. Kobold Illusionist, Mysterious Visitor and the Final Showdown, Gain Momentum and Close the Portal questlines are adjusted as well.

Battle at the End Time is unchanged, but Sir Finley, Sea Guide, Plot Twist and Gaslight Gatekeeper no longer progress its “empty your hand” step. The Assemble pool has also been trimmed to stop infinite triggers and unkillable minions.

Event cards

From this patch, owning an Escape from Violet Hold Pack gets you Arrival of the Old Gods, Arrival of the Titans and Dark Terraforming from The War of Old & New event. Blizzard calls it a one-time change.

Arena

Blizzard is reining in Warlock, Shaman and Death Knight while lifting Druid, Demon Hunter, Priest, Rogue, Mage and Hunter. Kith’ix is out of the draft pool, several cards appear less often, and others, such as Midnight Wolf and Tentacle Lash, show up more.

Battlegrounds

  • Quillboar and Demons are brought down, while Pirates get help.
  • Living Azerite drops to +3/+3 and Expert Aviator is removed. Murcules returns.
  • Many Elemental, Murloc and Mech minions are buffed, and plenty of Trinket costs and effects shift.
  • Dark Gifts change so holding them is more viable: early options like Fresh Perspective and Toughened Shield are weaker, while Hostility, Resistance and Incubation are stronger.
  • From turn 7, each Discover guarantees at least two minions of your most common type.

Bug fixes

Some Feats granted less experience than intended. Blizzard says it will grant the missing XP in the coming days. Befuddled Summoner now appears in Arena drafts.
