SCS Software has taken a closer look at how you’ll get to Iceland in its upcoming Euro Truck Simulator 2 DLC, which releases on November 10th. The short version: you’ll need a boat, and there are several to choose from. The post is for PC, and the DLC has a Steam page where you can add it to your wishlist.

Ferry routes

Three connections carry you across the North Atlantic from mainland Europe:

  • Hirtshals (Denmark) to Seyðisfjörður: based on a real ferry service run by Smyril Line, arriving in a village among the mountains and fjords of eastern Iceland.
  • Rotterdam’s Europoort (Netherlands) to Þorlákshöfn: on Iceland’s southwestern coast. In reality this is a freight service run by Smyril Line Cargo, but SCS has adapted it into a regular ferry for your truck and trailer.
  • Ålesund (Norway) to Seyðisfjörður: this route doesn’t exist in real life. SCS added it to give more travel options and tie in some of its newest map content, and it nods to the Norwegians who sailed to Iceland in the ninth century.

As part of that last addition, the previously inaccessible ferry port in Ålesund will open up to players.

A crossing inside Iceland

Ferries aren’t only for getting there. You can also cross Breiðafjörður bay between Stykkishólmur and Brjánslækur, a real crossing through an area known for its small islands and birdlife. SCS says it’s a handy alternative to the winding stretches of Route 60 in the northwest.

Transparent water

The Iceland DLC is also where transparent water makes its first appearance. You’ll be able to see rocks and terrain beneath the surface, especially in shallower spots. Water foam effects have been added in certain places too, such as fast-flowing rivers.

SCS says the changes will show up across dozens of locations in Iceland, and that it’s gradually adding more transparent water spots to the game.

Mind the cost

SCS warns that shipping your truck and trailer by ferry can be pricey, so plan your journeys and finances. If you’d rather skip the sea voyage, Quick Travel can take you straight to your garage in Iceland.
