Creative Assembly has rolled out Patch 9.0.5 for Total War: WARHAMMER III on PC. The headline is a big rework of campaign victory rewards and objectives, based on player feedback, plus a new Legendary difficulty option for Endgame scenarios and a large batch of fixes. Battle balance changes are listed separately in the studio’s own notes.

Victory rewards

  • Unique Lords and Heroes handed out as victory rewards now start at rank 20, fully kitted out with rare items and a unique trait.
  • Dozens of named characters, from Khazrak and Kroq-Gar to Louen, Morathi and Neferata, have had their reward traits and effects spelled out.
  • Most factions’ long victories now boost both Lord and Hero recruit rank, and several get bigger pooled resource rewards.
  • Short victory bundles and followers have been tuned for a long list of lords, with many effect values increased and some effects made faction-wide.
  • Markus Wulfhart’s long victory no longer gives units and gives recruit ranks instead. His short victory now provides 2x Helstorm Rocket Battery, 2x Steam tank and 2x Demigryph Knights.

Victory objectives

  • Isabella von Carstein now has her own objectives rather than reusing Vlad’s.
  • Morathi’s objectives now ask you to rank up Sorceress heroes rather than Supreme Sorceress lords. For long victory the required rank rises from 15 to 20, while the number of heroes needed drops from 5 to 4.
  • Rakarth’s long victory needs 15 unique Monster Pen units, down from 17.
  • Karl Franz’s “Emperor’s Decrees” requirement is lowered to 3 for short victory and 7 for long victory.
  • The Glottkin’s short victory kills condition is removed, and the long victory kills target drops from 7k to 5k.

Endgame and campaign

  • New “Endgame Difficulty: Legendary” checkbox when starting a new campaign. It strengthens the Endgame factions and changes other details, including some final battles.
  • AI factions should cope better with Endgame scenarios, though less so on Legendary.
  • Endgame factions can no longer declare war on key narrative-linked factions, which could make some long victory objectives impossible.
  • Fixed a crash when resetting the skills of a confederated character.

Faction highlights

  • Crone Hellebron’s Blood Frenzy is now a passive ability that builds the longer she fights in melee.
  • Vampire Counts get a rebalanced Vampire Lair mechanic, Lahmia becomes a 10-slot settlement, and Manipulation from Vampire Covens is doubled.
  • Skaven receive a long run of fixes covering Masterplans, Thanquol and Verminlords.
  • Boris Todbringer’s “Strange Tracks” cost drops from 2000 to 750.

Multiplayer and fixes

  • Several more units, including Verminlords and Skreech Verminking, now count towards the Rare Single Entities cap in custom and multiplayer battles.
  • Fixed a bug stopping players starting a multiplayer battle with no lords when “Start Without Lords” was selected.
  • Plenty of UI, tooltip, item and skill fixes across the board.

Creative Assembly suggests verifying your game files if you hit problems, and disabling mods if you see stability issues.
