Gaijin Entertainment has announced that NVIDIA DLSS 5 is coming to War Thunder on PC, arriving with the Eagle’s Shadow major update. The source doesn’t give a release date for the update.

DLSS is NVIDIA’s upscaling technology, which boosts frame rates and image quality on RTX graphics cards. War Thunder has used DLSS 2.0 since the New Power update and the move to Dagor Engine 6.0. Gaijin says the engine was built with modern upscaling and ray tracing in mind, and is now ready for the next step.

What DLSS 5 does

According to Gaijin, DLSS 5 runs on 3D-Guided Neural Rendering. A specialised AI model looks at the rendered frame along with colour, motion vectors and depth information. It then enhances lighting, material properties and shading in real time for a more photo-realistic image, while keeping the original 3D scene and the developers’ artistic intent intact.

Who gets what

DLSS 5 will be enabled for RTX devices in the Eagle’s Shadow update. On GeForce RTX 50 Series graphics cards and RTX Spark devices, Gaijin says it unlocks the engine’s full potential, including path tracing and other ray-traced effects. The studio also promises very high frame rates in the most demanding scenes.

What you’ll see

Gaijin points to several visual improvements:

  • Deeper, more realistic lighting
  • Richer atmosphere in overcast weather and rain
  • More convincing wet surfaces
  • Subtler material detail
